Inside Lamitak’s new Bras Basah showroom

Choosing finishes can be one of the harder parts of a renovation. A woodgrain that looks just right on a small sample may feel quite different once it covers an entire run of cabinetry, while subtle shifts in colour and texture are easy to miss on screen.

“When we select laminates, it’s always in a small chip size. So the pain point for homeowners is they don’t really know how it looks at a larger scale,” says Jansen Tan, Director, Product & Brand at Lamitak.

It was a problem the homegrown brand set out to address with its Lavender showroom around nine years ago, giving homeowners the chance to experience laminates beyond the sample chip. Its newly opened Lamitak City at Bras Basah Complex brings that idea into a more central location, where visitors can browse finishes and see more clearly how various combinations might come together in an interior.

Start with what catches your eye

You do not necessarily need to walk in knowing exactly what style you want.

Its launch showcase, Ways of Seeing, Ways of Living, offers a more instinctive starting point. Eleven Singapore-based creatives across design, art, photography, fashion, craft and spatial practice were invited to collaborate with Lamitak, translating personal memories, instincts and visual references into material palettes and spatial interpretations.

The final designs are presented as postcards. For anyone who has ever struggled to explain the look they want for their home, the premise is refreshingly simple: start with the images you are naturally drawn to, then see how those instincts can translate into actual finishes.

It is less about fitting neatly into a prescribed style and more about seeing how mood, memory and personality can shape a palette for the home.

Among the participating creatives are Selwyn of FARM, fashion designer Xie Qian Qian of GRAYE Studios, urban artist ANTZ, and Ruby Chong and Kenny Ren of Hello Homebodies. The first phase runs until December 2026, with another 22 designs by the same group due to be introduced in early 2027.

Look beyond the swatch

The launch also offered a glimpse into how some of Lamitak’s designs are developed. Jansen Tan shared that research for one of its marble collections took him to Carrara, where he observed how marble was cut, photographed reference images and later translated aspects of what he saw into laminate.

That same emphasis on looking closely at materials carries through to Lamitak City, where visitors can compare colours, textures and edging side by side, using samples to test different combinations before making a decision.

Together, they show how much more there is to choosing surfaces than picking from a swatch.

More than material selection

Lamitak City is also designed to support talks, presentations and creative programmes, with a flexible area that can be reconfigured for various uses.

That gives the space another dimension beyond choosing finishes. It can also be somewhere to discover new perspectives and return to as programmes unfold.
