Unconventional living – by By: Dan & Co

description

Project type: 4-room HDB flat
Floor area: 1,001sqft

The owners of this four-room BTO flat wanted a home built for hosting. With a small dining area and no need for a TV, the decision was made to merge the living and dining into one seamless social hub. A curved wall at the foyer adds privacy without closing off the space, setting the stage for effortless gatherings.

As the wife loves to cook, lead designer Daniel Lim from By: Dan & Co extended the kitchen into the original dining area, creating a dedicated pantry. The wall of the nearest bedroom was also replaced with glass, visually expanding the space and bringing in more natural light.

The double-galley kitchen maximises countertop space for cooking and food prep. With an open layout, the colour scheme was carefully curated to flow seamlessly into the dining area and foyer. Deep, wood-toned cabinets add warmth and depth, enriching the space with a grounded, inviting feel.

The master bedroom may be compact, but it’s smartly designed with ample storage while maintaining a sense of cosy intimacy. “We placed the dressing table by the window for natural light and connected the headboard with the wardrobe,” says Daniel. Cement-inspired laminates tie the space to the communal area, ensuring visual continuity.
