A hotel-style condo for everyday escapes

In this Pasir Ris condominium, L.A Design Studio transforms the rituals of coming home into something resembling a boutique hotel experience. Created for a busy couple who share their home with their cats, the renovation prioritises comfort, intimacy and effortless living, offering a restorative retreat that feels removed from the pace and pressures of daily life.

“As busy business owners who rarely get the chance to travel or go on a staycation, the couple wanted a home that felt like checking into a hotel every time they walked through the door, a space that would genuinely help them wind down after a full day at work,” says designer LT. This aspiration became the guiding principle for the project, influencing everything from spatial planning to material selection. 

Rather than undertaking an extensive reconfiguration of the apartment, L.A Design Studio focused on a series of targeted interventions that would have the greatest impact on daily living. The original layout, comprising two bedrooms and a separate study, was largely retained, with the most significant change concentrated in the master suite. There, the former study was absorbed into the bedroom zone to create a more generous private domain, setting the stage for a sequence of sleeping, dressing and bathing spaces that feels closer to a hotel suite than a conventional bedroom.

The living and dining areas continue the same restrained design language. Visually connected, they are anchored by a full-height feature wall that combines warm fluted timber panelling with a book-matched marble slab framing the television. Rather than overwhelming the room, the composition introduces subtle texture and depth, complemented by soft cove lighting, dark timber-patterned flooring and carefully selected furnishings that evoke the relaxed atmosphere of a hotel lounge. 

Materiality plays an important role in creating this ambience. Warm timber finishes soften the contemporary palette, while marble surfaces lend quiet sophistication without feeling overly formal. Throughout, lighting has been layered to enhance mood rather than simply illuminate, allowing the home to shift effortlessly from bright mornings to intimate evenings. 

A compact galley wet kitchen is finished with crisp white cabinetry, black countertops and matte black tapware, while a black steel-framed glass door leads into a concealed dry kitchen and pantry. Here, integrated appliances, a built-in refrigerator and a dedicated coffee and water station create an uncluttered space that feels more akin to a hotel pantry than a conventional residential kitchen. 

Within the master bedroom, a fluted feature wall forms the backdrop to the bed, while suspended black pendant lights replace traditional bedside lamps, freeing surface space and introducing a softer visual rhythm. A floating vanity positioned beside the window is paired with a backlit circular mirror, creating an elegant corner for daily routines.

The ensuite bathroom completes the experience. Enclosed with glass rather than solid walls, it extends visually into the bedroom to create a spa-like atmosphere while preserving privacy. “The ensuite blurs into the bedroom for an open, spa-like feel, while keeping the setting private and romantic,” explains LT. “The homeowners wanted to enjoy this more intimate mood before the home eventually adapts to family life.”

With this project, L.A Design Studio demonstrates how relatively modest spatial changes can significantly elevate everyday living. By rethinking the relationship between storage, movement and relaxation, the apartment delivers exactly what its owners had hoped for: a home that offers the restorative feeling of a hotel stay without having to leave the city.
