When asked about her favourite part of this stylish apartment, homeowner Jamie Lee didn’t have to stop to think. “The swing, for sure!” she answered without a moment’s pause. Her excitement is palpable and it’s not hard to see why. The swing settee in the balcony has an unblocked view of the sea stretching into the horizon.
“Our swing faces the sea, so it’s a very soothing spot to sit at and read a book or to just watch the world go by,” Jamie explains with a laugh. “Our three-year-old son loves to climb onto the swing by himself and watch the aeroplanes fly by.”
Right from the beginning, this love for the sea view helped to kickstart the design process of their new home. Jamie and her husband engaged Priscilla Tan from Styledbypt to give their resale apartment a complete makeover. Explaining their choice, Jamie says: “We really liked how Priscilla from Styledbypt could conceptualise the coastal home look we wanted. She has an eye for colour and is able to pair items together to make a space really cosy.”
Within a tight timeline of two months, Priscilla quickly got down to work and managed to have the home ready for the family of three to move in. The coastal-inspired style of this home is immediately recognisable by its cool blue hues, woody finishes, and nautical decor pieces. Thanks to Priscilla’s styling prowess, the look is far from kitschy. The bright, modern space is dotted with just a sufficient amount of nautical decor in all the right places to bring out the coastal atmosphere. Priscilla says: “The gorgeous sea view was definitely the inspiration of the home. We wanted to tie the blue from the sea into the different elements in the apartment.”
Bold stripes of blue and white feature prominently in the living room and the dry kitchen. A curated collection of pictures and art pieces make up a mini art gallery. One of these art pieces was contributed by the couple’s three-year-old, while Samsung’s The Frame TV hangs in the middle as the centrepiece switching between TV and Art Mode.
Priscilla’s eye for visually pleasing spaces also led the reconfiguration of the apartment’s layout. The kitchen was originally holed up in a corner and separated from the living and dining areas. The entryway into the house was narrow and the elongated shape of the living-dining area made it look stuffy. Priscilla had the walls hacked down to open up this space, allowing the house to ‘breathe’ and be endowed with a relaxed, laidback vibe.
Stepping into the home, one is greeted by the sight of an open-plan kitchen, which flows seamlessly into the living-dining area. The living room now feels airier and looks much bigger. The adjoining balcony which used to be a separate outdoor space has become an extension of the living room.
While one of the three bedrooms has been transformed into an adorable room for the couple’s young child, the other two bedrooms have been combined to become a large master bedroom with a spacious dressing area and an all-white en-suite bathroom. According to Jamie, seeing the bathroom being re-tiled was one of the most memorable parts of the renovation journey. “We had amazing tilers who went the extra mile of cutting the marble tiles to fit the curved wall in the master bedroom toilet,” she shares. “I literally gasped out loud when I walked into the toilet, because of how gorgeous it turned out to be.”
It is evident that the family of three loves their new home. “We purchased it because it was a simple, down-to-earth apartment with its own charm. The sea view that we get in all our rooms is a huge bonus, of course,” Jamie says, adding, “And when Priscilla came in to style the home with her magic touch, we came back to a different home that we absolutely love!”
