Following the shortlist announcement for Outstanding HDB Flat, we’re proud to announce the six private apartment projects that are in the running to be named “Outstanding Private Apartment” in the Lookbox Design Awards 2017. Stay tuned for the main awards event that takes place in December!
These are the projects our international judging panel has picked as some of Singapore’s most inspiring private apartment homes:
1) Project name: Interlace 1313
Project type: 4-bedroom condominium unit
Firm: Wee Studio
About the project: The play of forms and materials, soft transitions between different textures and hues, and focal points as “plot twists” account for the elegant modern interiors of this apartment, belonging to a small family based overseas.
2) Project name: Bachelor Pad for the Sophisticated Gentleman
Project type: 1-bedroom + study loft condominium unit
Firm: Satobent Interior Design
About the project: A functional, modern space with a hint of luxury was achieved through the use of a rich and natural material palette, and cleverly designed built-in structures.
3) Project name: The Slim Loft
Project type: Walk-up loft apartment
Firm: Studio XMSL
About the project: Home to a bachelor in his mid-30s, and his mother, this is a contemporary apartment infused with a unique aesthetic derived from the neighbourhood’s (Joo Chiat) cultural identity.
4) Project name: Vertis Penthouse
Project type: 4-bedroom condominium penthouse
Firm: asolidplan
About the project: Internal sliding screens with mini windows were introduced to resolve the view dilemma: the neighbours opposite the balcony were too close, yet there is a stunning view of teh sea from the side of the balcony. The feel of “a house in the sky” was created, with a more meaningful relationship between the outside and inside, and with unified upper and lower floors.
5) Project name: AM Apartment
Project type: 1-bedroom condominium unit
Firm: Wynk Collaborative
About the project: A brand new condominium unit with run-of-the-mill finishes is transformed into a space that feels like a sanctuary, and with a palette that is engaging yet soothing to the senses. The design also makes efficient use of space.
6) Project name: Yamasaki Apartment
Project type: 2-bedroom condominium unit
Firm: Goy Architects
About the project: The homeowners were inspired by traditional shophouses, black and white bungalows and the idea of veranda living; the renovation of the 22-year-old apartment allowed them to enjoy a lofty, yet cosy, environment with soothing filtered light, conducive spaces for conversation and play time for the family.
