You’ve watched her in blockbuster films like The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook. But have you seen Jennifer Lawrence’s New York City penthouse? It is located at the top of The Laurel, a 30-story condominium on New York’s Upper East Side. The 4,073-square-foot duplex apartment has three bedrooms, five baths, and is filled with light through walls of glass. Recently sold for US$9.9 million, the glamorous penthouse also boasts a 3,000-square-foot outdoor terrace that is the envy of many. Here are five reasons why we love Jennifer Lawrence’s home and some design pointers you could adopt for your home reno.
Various design styles such as Baroque, Victorian, farmhouse and mid-century come together to create a truly stunning interior that befits the actress’ down-to-earth yet zany personality. That said, the interiors are not over the top as the restrained colour palette help pull everything together flawlessly. The clever use of negative space also provides breathing room for one to appreciate the different elements.
Dressed in all-white and hardwood floors, the eat-in chef’s kitchen has everything for the serious cook. Yet, the standout feature here is its marble kitchen island that has been constructed to look like a table. The base is wrapped in mirrors on all sides, giving the impression of a larger space.
With a bathroom like this, it’s hard not to take languorous baths and showers in here. To maximise space, the built-in tub has been made to extend into the shower area, with only the shower enclosure dividing the two zones. This created a perfect spot to sit and lather on body lotion, or for extra towels to be kept. The linearity of design is also apparent through the use of a trough sink that lengthens the space further.
The master suite is unusually large with equally large windows that flood the room with natural light. Despite its large footprint, furnishings are kept minimal for a restful slumber, with the use of a supersize rug to anchor the furniture pieces. Waking up in the mornings is made that much more special when there is direct access to the expansive terrace.
Aside from its stunning interiors and views to die for, the penthouse’s two floors of outdoor terraces encompass all one could ask for gracious entertaining. It boasts an outdoor kitchen, fireplace with pergola, built-in pingpong table and amazing views of New York City and Hudson River.
